Morrison Tech, Partnering with IMH Products, Kicks Off STEM Days with Prophetstown 7th Graders
For over a decade, Morrison Tech has provided a unique STEM experience for local 7th graders. This year, the college kicked off its first Engineering Tech Day with Prophetstown 7th graders on Friday, October 11th. Students participated in six hands-on activities that highlighted various aspects of engineering, engineering technology, and computer networking.
Among the activities, students built and tested the strength of bridges, working within budget constraints. They engaged in a concrete project, learning about the process from aggregate selection to the final pour. Additionally, they explored breadboarding, land surveying, and CAD design, gaining valuable insights into the engineering field. This immersive experience aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators.
New to this year's program was a sponsored lunch for the 7th graders, provided by IMH Products of Prophetstown, IL. This addition allowed the students to enjoy a meal together while learning about the critical roles that engineering technicians and network administrators play in society. Working in combined groups, the 7th graders discovered how these professionals contribute to the technical field.
Alongside the hands-on activities, students developed essential skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking. As an ABET-accredited, premier engineering technology college, Morrison Tech is dedicated to STEM outreach for students. “Our goal is to get them excited,” said President Scott. “When you capture their attention, it’s amazing what they can do.”
The college hosts several Middle School Engineering Technology Days throughout the year and expects to welcome over 500 students. Morrison Tech is grateful for its partnership with IMH Products during the Prophetstown 7th grade visit.
