Student Government Plans Blood Drive

Residents of the Morrison area are encouraged to donate blood during a blood drive on Wednesday, March 22 at Morrison Institute of Technology.
Morrison Tech’s Student Government organization is partnering with The American Red Cross and the Migrant Students Foundation to present the event as part of the National Cesar Chavez Blood Drive Challenge. The event began in 2009 to honor the legacy of Cesar Chavez and provides college students with an opportunity to promote health education, health and science careers, civic engagement and help save lives.
Blood will be collected from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Parkinson Auditorium in the Administration Building on the Morrison Tech campus, 701 Portland Ave., Morrison.
During the event, donors can give:
- Blood: The most common type of donation, during which approximately a pint of “whole blood” is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour.
- Power Red: A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood. This procedure takes about 90 minutes.
To make an appointment, donors can call 815.535.8408 or go to http://rdcrss.org/2lNb1HH. Walk-ins are also welcome.
