What is GIS?  

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a collection of computer hardware, software, and geographic data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically  referenced information.

The GIS technology is interdisciplinary and makes use of geography, cartography, mathematics, engineering, topology, database design, spatial   analysis, remote sensing, environmental science, computer science, and several other disciplines.

 

GIS Certificate Program (Currently Offered as an Evening Program)

The GIS Certificate program is a compliment to a two year technology or related field degree, and will give the holder an upper edge for professional positions in the diverse fields utilizing the GIS technology. As the student  completes this program, they will develop a working knowledge of industry standard GIS software and the skills  necessary to work with diverse data sets and analyses requirements in this rapidly growing career field.

Persons from the public sector who would just like to pick up a particular course relating to just GIS may simply register for that course and need not complete the entire GIS Certificate Program as shown.  Contact the Vice President of Academics to register for a single course or to receive additional information regarding the GIS courses.
