    Employer City: Bettendorf

    Employer State: Iowa

    Position: Municipal Engineering Technician /Design

I graduated from Morrison Institute of Technology in 2005 and have been working in the Civil Engineering design field since. Upon graduating I started with a firm located in Peoria, IL and gained a lot of experience and knowledge in entry level design and layout for large site development. Since then I have returned to the Quad Cities and am currently employed at Missman, Inc. I have acquired much knowledge and experience in working with local municipalities and governing entities. The majority of projects that I am assigned to are local within the Quad City Metro area. My typical responsibilities are layout and design based of road and waterways. This includes design, grading, drainage analysis, utility coordination and specification writing to name the majority of responsibilities I tend to.
While working I have also begun to seek out furthering my education and am currently enrolled in Blackhawk College and Western Illinois University Civil Engineering program in pursuit of my bachelor’s degree. Morrison Institute of Technology has been a great help in grasping the key concepts of the work that I do now on a daily basis.

    Robert Godwin Class of 1986

    Rob GodwinEmployer: Self Employed

After graduation I found a job as a Draftsman at a machine shop in Urbana Il. R.L. Brownfield Co. Inc.; where I detailed structural steel, stairs, and handrails. My good friend and former room-mate Dave Knupple moved to town after getting a job at the steel company right down the road from me. Our friends Paul and Tony visited us often, and it was like “dorm life” at MIT never ended.

The party ended in August of 1988 when I moved to San Antonio Texas, and began work as a Detailer / Estimator and a small Steel Construction Company called Construction Metal Products located in Kyle TX.

I moved back to Illinois in 1994 and began working for a Houston based company, NCI Building Systems, in Mattoon as a sales person, estimator, project manager, then a draftsman.

As of April 2009 I am currently self-employed working on a contract basis as a draftsman detailing Sheet Metal Roofing and Siding, as well as structural steel for construction projects nationwide.

Mary (Melton) Girven Class of 1989

    Mary GirvenEmployer: Sandia National Laboratories

    Employer City: Albuquerque

    Employer State: New Mexico

    Position: Member of Technical Staff

When I graduated from Morrison Institute of Technology in 1989 I was hired by Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. I had no idea how far my new career would take me, literally! About 10 years ago I began a new project at Sandia that supported an international treaty, and eventually I was hired by the brand new treaty organization and my husband and I moved to Vienna, Austria. We’re back in Albuquerque now, and I’m still supporting the treaty. Deciding to go to MIT was one of the best decisions of my life!

A lot has changed since I retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 2010.  I am the CEO of three of my own businesses and the V.P. of Information Technology in a new fourth business.  I am generally more busy these days than when I worked at Sandia, but I’m having a lot more fun being my own boss.

Eric B. Neumann Class of 2004

    Employer: Read Excavating

    Employer City:  Gilberts

    Employer State:  Illinois

    Position: Head of Surveying Dept.

Morrison Institute of Technology was a great experience both educational and personally.  I met tons of great people and friends which most of I’m still friends with today including my wife who you know as Rachel Carlson.  We have been married since 2008.  The education that I received at Morrison Institute of Technology, helped me get my foot in the door with my first job that I interviewed for at Morrison Institute of Technology.  Schleede Hampton & Associates, a consulting engineering firm where I worked as a field and lab tech for a year during which I made great contacts, received a ton of field experience and earned a great reputation.  That lead me to my next job at Read Excavating as one of their GPS surveyors which is where I currently work today.  Through a lot of hard work and an odd series of events,  I have made my way up to head of the Surveying Department with them.  I hope the best to all my fellow classmates and future students of Morrison Institute of Technology.

Chris J. Carlson Class of 2007

    Employer: Aqua Aerobic Systems, Inc.

    Employer City: Rockford

    Employer State: Illinois

Morrison Institute of Technology really helped me get to where I am. One of the biggest factors to me graduating would be that the teachers were/are fully devoted to the students. They would spend time after class if you needed any help. The job placement program was great. I was able to find a job 1 month before graduation and started my job 2 weeks after graduation.
